EPISODE #2!!!!

Hey everyone, the long awaited second episode is up and running...

http://www.redraiderramblings.merrellstudios.com/

It's a lot faster paced show this week, as Garrett Gregory, our intensely handsome moderator, kept everything moving at a blistering pace, ala Pardon the Interruption.

This week, we cover everything from the A&M/Tech Cotton Bowl issue, to Tech Baseball, to March Madness... Don't miss it!

Keep spreading the word, and thank you!

Jordan and Dusty

Oden? Are you serious Strebeck? The “true center” is a thing of the past in the NBA. I mean who’s left? Shaq? Tim Duncan (I’d say he’s more of a power forward)? Yao Ming? I’m sure I’m probably forgetting someone but that’s not the point. The new NBA “center” is 1 of 2 player types: 1. WAY more athletic and WAY more mobile than Oden (see Amare Stoudamire, Chris Bosh, Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard) or 2. Slightly less powerful than Oden, but with a killer jumpshot (see Mehmet Okur, Pau Gasol, Dirk, heck Yao Ming probably falls into this category).

Now, I’m not saying that players like Oden aren’t valuable, they will always put out pretty consistent numbers - about 15 pts, 9 boards, and a block or two a night (see Andrew Bogut, Eddie Curry, Jermaine O’Neal, Emeka Okafor, etc.). The ONLY “true center” left in the league with the potential to put monster numbers on a consistent basis (30 pts, 15 boards) is Shaq, and he’s well past his prime. Moreover, I think it is a considerable stretch to say Oden has the potential to be a Shaq-type player - he’s just not strong enough or quick enough. That being said, if he does turn into the next Shaq, call me stupid and I’ll take it.

On the other hand (as my friend Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof would say), Durant has the talent and the upside potential to be the next Dirk, KG, Lebron, etc. I think he’s that once every 5 years or so player that comes along that can completely take over the ball game. Who knows, he may be a total flop, but can you imagine being the GM who passed on the next Dirk? I see him gaining some strength and some weight and being a more athletic, better rebounding Dirk. Or as some have said, KG with an outside shot.
